Anybody on here feel guilty about slavery?
Just watched a documentary about this on BBC.

It ended nearly 200 years ago FFS

Slavery still exists just not the same way 200 years ago

I don't know the answer Dave, that's why I asked the question.

How about you have a go at answering your own question?

Im not trying to say anyone is responsible. It happened because it happened.

Right place right time vs. wrong place wrong time.

You can go as far back as you want to find an excuse to blame everyone else I suppose, Dave.

It's deeply ironic that we type our opinions using components no doubt produced in slave-like conditions, while in some cases getting filled with self loathing over stuff that happened many years ago. Life wasn't a 'level playing field.' It still isn't; get over it ... Cos 'whining' 24/7 is really gonna help, isn't it?

"Unless you owned your own land in the UK you were basically a slave to the land-owner. Even if you had a "trade" you probably were given work from "the estate" to complete for little or no cost.

Serfs, and those "in service" played roughly the same role as slaves, but were clearly not black enough to be of concern"

Bingo.

Most posters on here's ancestors at the time of the transatlantic slave trade lived lives not too dissimilar from the transatlantic slaves.

All the empires at the time "did" slavery, some more brutally than others. Ours came in late to the party and shortly after was among the first to ban it.

And unfortunately since we have also been among the first to apologise and try to make amends (while others just deny and get a free pass, looking at you Ottomans/Turkey) and in return we've just been singled out as the worst and get all the grief.

No good deed goes unpunished *shrugs*

Yes but it is entirely dependant on how far back in time you want to go to frame the context of the question.

Exactly Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) was known as the bread basket of Africa until the corrupt idiot Mugabe took over, at least Mandela had the sense to keep the white population onside when he took over

You can say it but it wouldn't answer the question

Dare I say that perhaps they don't let white men run their countries anymore...?

Re: Anybody on here feel guilty about slavery?
Currently, the 10 poorest countries on the planet are in Africa, and 22 out the 25 poorest countries in the world are in Africa.

Why is that?

Willtell 9:59 Sun Aug 30
Re: Anybody on here feel guilty about slavery?
2Africa is not in a great shape and immigrants from these regions come to this country to enjoy some of the riches stolen from these regions which has made this country immensely wealthy. "

What? How wealthy did Britain get from coco-nuts and slaves 2-300 years ago then?
